BlackBerry Key2 Available for Pre-Order June 29; Ships July 13. And I'm Not Happy!

The news big new is in the headline. The other big news is what's not anywhere on the press release: no mention of a CDMA variant for those of us on CDMA networks. And that's not cool!

Hit to jump to read my rant.

The BlackBerry Key2 was shaping up to be another mid-range device for me to look past, however, with all the attention BlackBerry Mobile put into the processor and RAM to ensure the sluggish performance of the original KeyOne is the thing of the past, I was really excited to get my hands on one. Of course, I restrained my enthusiasm because I expected there to be a lack of news of a CDMA variant.

At this point, I'm going to assume there isn't a CDMA version in the pipeline until the sales of the Key2 and demand prove promising. And that's a shame because there's a market for the device greatly starved for a true productivity device.

Of course there's always the question of why not move carriers. Those of you that have followed my blog and channel know I'm a tech and BlackBerry enthusiast. When it comes to carriers, I've tried them all. I keep coming back to Verizon. In some cases, I needed to make concessions or sacrifices to remain on Verizon. That hasn't been the case for the past few years, and no one can easily pry me away from them; not even a great mid-ranger like the Key2.

Alas, I keep playing the waiting game for the next device that can be my daily driver without compromise. I was content with the HTC U11 despite my gripes with it. I learned to adapt to the Google Pixel 2 while the U11 is in repair. And I have accepted that future flagships will continue to disappoint with more and more companies sticking to glass backs and rising prices.

No, thank you.

Help me, BlackBerry Limited, you're my only hope for productive, workhorse devices!

On a GSM Network? Then ready your orders for next week so you can get in line to be among the first consumers to own the next generation BlackBerry running Android Oreo 8.1 out of the box!
