OP ED: Why a Christian Cannot and Should Not Support Barack Obama

Some of you are perhaps tired of my election posts. I would apologize if I did not see it necessary but the importance of tomorrow’s election cannot be overstated. Those of you living in California have received my emails regarding the propositions on the ballot. The purpose of this post is to highlight what is undeniably the most crucial issue of this election. No, I am not talking about the awful state of the United States’ economy and how the leftist policies under President Obama have done more harm than good to recover from the recession/depressionThis is not about Obama switching support from traditional to gay marriage, and insulting the Christian Easter Resurrection Sunday with gay couples and their kids rolling Easter Eggs at the White HouseThis is not even about ObamaCare forcing every American to contribute to funds to pay for abortions for any reason. No, my friends and family, this is about an even greater issue at stake that has not been addressed enough. The issue is support for the Nation State of Israel.

Genesis 12:1-3 – “Now the LORD had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” –NKJV (Emphasis mine)

Whether you believe in God or not is irrelevant to the case. This is history I am talking about. Abram from Genesis would become Abraham. From Abraham came Ismael and Isaac. Isaac was God’s promised son to Abraham. From Isaac came Esau and Jacob. God would later change Jacob’s name to Israel in the year 1906 B.C. Jacob first resided in the Land of Canaan 4,000 years ago. After a long period of absence from the earth, Israel was reborn on May 17, 1948, just as God declared they would in the Book of Amos 9:11-15.

Amos 9:11-15 - “On that day I will raise up the tabernacle of David, which has fallen down, and repair its damages; I will raise up its ruins, and rebuild it as in the days of old; That they may possess the remnant of Edom, and all the Gentiles who are called by My name,” says the Lord who does this thing. “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord, “When the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him who sows seed; The mountains shall drip with sweet wine, and all the hills shall flow with it. I will bring back the captives of My people Israel; They shall build the waste cities and inhabit them; They shall plant vineyards and drink wine from them; They shall also make gardens and eat fruit from them. I will plant them in their land, and no longer shall they be pulled up from the land I have given them,” says the Lord your God.

So what does Israel have to with this Presidential Election, and, most importantly, what does this have to do with Barack Obama?

Everything.

When then-Senator Barack Obama ran for president he ran as a “Pro-Israel” candidate. His 1st term in office as President has been anything but supportive of Israel regardless of him saying otherwise. I have chronicled his disdain for Israel on my news site The NewsReel (http://mynewsreel.blogspot.com), but it’s just too much to try to go read one by one. I did a little research and found a fantastic, 30-minute documentary that chronicle’s Obama’s position and policies towards Israel. The documentary is called Daylight: The Story of Obama and Israel by the Emergency Committee For Israel (committeeforisrael.com). So instead of writing a book about Obama and Israel, I encourage you to watch the documentary here:

Prior to the 2008 Presidential Election, the Reverend Jesse Jackson was quoted by The New York Post:

The most important change would occur in the Middle East, where "decades of putting Israel's interests first" would end. [Jesse] Jackson believes that, although "Zionists who have controlled American policy for decades" remain strong, they'll lose a great deal of their clout when Barack Obama enters the White House. –Jesse Jackson interview with Amir Taheri, October 14, 2008. (http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/opedcolumnists/item_6OMiQxyZEhxOR6i0Hdag9O)

The Obama Campaign distanced itself from Rev. Jesse Jackson, and Rev. Jackson would later apologize for saying what he did. The distancing and apologizing was all just politics to win the election. The Obama Administration did exactly as Rev. Jackson said. Israel’s interests were not “first”. In fact, there never seemed to be any importance taken to Israel’s interest and security as it faces increased hostilities in the region from Iran, Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood, and other terrorist groups. And the United States was Israel’s greatest ally. . .

If you watched the documentary I linked above, that means I do not have to elaborate any further on this issue. I will only describe what is expected to come.

Zechariah 12:3 – “And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it.” –NKJV

In the end, Israel will stand alone. Israel has been all but alone the past four years. The following verses are particularly scary:

Zechariah 12:8-9 – “In that day the LORD will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; the one who is feeble among them in that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, like the Angel of the LORD before them. It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.” -NKJV (Read about the Battle of Armageddon in Revelations 19:11-21

Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. Prior to the 2008 Election, Obama declared Jerusalem to be the capital of Israel. After he was elected, The Obama Administration refused to acknowledge Jerusalem as the capital of Jerusalem (http://mynewsreel.blogspot.com/2012/07/carney-refuses-to-identify-capital-of.html). The Democrat Party removed their support of God and Israel from the Party Platform this past summer at the Democratic National Convention. Because of political backlash, God and recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel was reinstated to the Party Platform amid boos and jeers from the delegates. The 2/3 majority vote to reinstate these positions were not in attendance (http://mynewsreel.blogspot.com/2012/09/dnc-vote-on-jerusalem-god-in-platform.html)

There is a laundry list of issues I disagree with Barack Obama, but Israel is by far the most concerning issue on a spiritual level. Christians that profess to believe in God and seek after Him should know that they cannot support a man and administration that scolds, judges, insults, and disrespects the State of Israel. It is one thing to disagree with Israel’s policies. It is a whole other thing to belittle Israel for its existence. Do not take my word for it, see for yourself: 2011 Poll: 12% of Israeli Jews consider Obama to be Pro-Israel http://www.jpost.com/DiplomacyAndPolitics/Article.aspx?id=222451

A poll from October 29, 2012, shows only 22% of Israelis support Obama versus 57% support Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney (http://thehill.com/blogs/global-affairs/middle-east-north-africa/264609-romney-polls-far-ahead-of-obama-in-israel).

I reiterate my point that a Christian cannot and should not vote for Barack Obama. He ran as a Christian candidate in the last election winning a lot of the “religious” voters in the process. His administration’s policies and positions have been anything but “Christian-friendly” as the Catholic Church found out the hard way this year. But should a Christian vote for Mitt Romney, a Mormon? Well, that is not the real question. Why should you care if he is Mormon? My belief is that people are repulsed by the word “Mormon” but have no idea what a “Mormon” is. I do happen to know about the Mormon “denomination of Christianity”. At the end of the day, I do not mind Romney being Mormon. He chooses to believe in his beliefs. At least he does not apologize for them. My issue with Obama has been his deception hiding behind the “Christian” title to win votes over then stabbing Christians in the back with policies that insult God, silence Christians, and reward immorality. My philosophy during this election cycle has been, “I prefer to vote for an unabashed Mormon than a false Christian.” Yes, I believe Obama to be a false Christian not by the words he says, but by the actions he’s taken these last four years.

This election goes beyond the issue of “left and right”. This election is our moment to turn to God just as Nineveh had to do when the Prophet Jonah delivered the Word of God to the people of Nineveh. For the complete account of this event, read the Book of Jonah, but do not just stop at the amazing moment when Jonah is thrown into the sea to be swallowed by a whale. God gave Nineveh two options: repent and be spared God’s judgment or continue in sin and be destroyed. Long story short, the King’s heart was moved and made the people of the city repent. God did not destroy Nineveh in their time. Sometime later God did carry out His judgment. What I am saying in all this is that America is in Nineveh’s position. We have a lot to answer to God to as a country. This country was founded on Judea-Christian principles and has failed to live up to them as a people for decades. God will bring judgment to America assuming the massive hurricanes and plagues hitting America are not a part of it already. This country has dishonored God time and time again through the Judicial Branch from the Federal to Local levels. We have an opportunity to elect a person that stands with Israel (http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/09/romney-and-netanyahu-old-friends-now-at-center-of-iran-nuke-debate/) or a man that continues to disrespect them (http://spectator.org/blog/2012/09/11/obama-vs-israel-yet-again).

You know where I stand on this now and why. I pray you read this with an open heart and open mind. Now I invite you to pray over this as well. Godspeed.

P.S. Google dropped my direct domain www.thenewsreel.info. I changed it back to http://mynewsreel.blogspot.com. Thank you for reading!
