Let me be clear, i am no fan of the iPhone, but i respect its cultural and its impact in the mobile phone industry. IPhone users are hard to get along with though. A lot that i know can be stuck up divas thinking they are the greatest in the world. Look, the phone is cool - WHEN IT WORKS! Unless you bought the phone to utilize its capabilities, then i respect your opinion. But if you buy the iPhone because its the "in" thing, dont talk to me. And i won't sympathize when you get your AT&T bill.
There are some people that are complete diehards for anything Apple. Some really wanted the iPhone but were disappointed they couldn't do much with it after jailbreaking it and connecting it elsewhere. Some really love Verizon but were disappointed by the lack of device options that could not stack up to the iPhone.
Four years later the suffering is close to ending for the iPhone fans. They finally get the use of the iPhone though without the ability to use voice and data simultaneously like on AT&T. At least the service will work! Okay, no SIM card is a bummer to those that rely on it, but global and roaming charges are painful no matter what carrier you're on. IPhone fans now have the power to choose: iPhone on Verizon or AT&T. Still in black though.
Unfortunately, for the rest of us, allowing iphones to be serviced through Verizon is like being in a room with smokers: you suffer (assuming you dont smoke). How so? In order to sell and provide service to the iPhone, Verizon had to bend over backwards. At first i thought the driving reason for the sudden charge in benefit provisions from Verizon was because of LTE. Not so much, according to a slip up by my area Verizon rep. The reason Verizon is canceling the popular New Every Two Years Program, why they are extending their Early Upgrade from 13 months to 20 months; and why they are cutting their 30 day cooling off period to 14 days is because of the agreement they reached with Apple. In other words, Verizon was so desperate for the iPhone they bowed before Steve Jobs' demands and punished their longstanding, loyal customers that patiently waited for devices comparable to the iPhone. This was first rumored at the beginning of the month by multiple media outlets. It has since been confirmed (see one of the many stories covering this subject below) by the media and Verizon reps.
The programs will be cancelled on January 16, 2011.
Apple wins. Verizon customers lose including the soon-to-Verizon iPhone users.
There is good in all of this. The iPhone crowd will suddenly be distracted from mocking non-iPhone users. They will be busy arguing who's iPhone is better than who's: AT&T or Verizon!
Stupid Apple. Shame on Verizon for ambushing their customers with this. Most customers are not even aware of this.
