Reviews aren't something I'm prepared to do again quite just yet. However, I must vouch for the latest spin on one of my favorite works of literature, and that is The Three Musketeers directed by Wes W.S. Anderson. He complied quite the cast for his action, adventure film.
If you're not familiar with the storyline its very simple to follow. The story is just like the previous films: the sinister Cardinal Richelieu schemes to put England and France at war so he can overthrow the teenage French King Louis XIV. The up and coming musketeer D'Artagnan arrives to Paris in hopes to join the nearly extinct Musketeers. He rallies the most famous musketeers: Aremis, Athos, and Portos to save the King after discovering the evil plot the Cardinal put into motion.
The Musketeer from a few years ago was a disaster full of eastern martial arts and awful dialogue not to mention choppy acting. This film is more action packed than the previous adaptations but doesn't feel too over-the-top as the last version. This film is fun, epic and family friendly! I do recommend this film for a good laugh, a good time, and good fun! I'm surprised what the Resident Evil director Anderson was able to cook up. You would never guess he made those sci fi horror films. Oh, I must mention a very clever map graphic Anderson employed to show 16th Century Europe. Each time it appeared it was fun!
If all of the above reasons aren't good enough to get you to go, just go for the beautiful Milla Jovovich! Ignore the awful marketing campaign. There's more to this film than Summit Pictures cared to show.
The Three Musketeers (2011) is rated PG-13 for intense action, adventure peril and some language.
Runtime: 1 hour 50 minutes
My Rating: B
