What a monster opening for "Hunger Games"! The latest estimates are for the movie to open at $155M! If estimates hold, that would make "Hunger Games" the 3rd largest box office opening weekend on record behind The Dark Knight, and it would rank as the biggest opening ever for a non-sequel movie.
I have teased for a couple of years on THE CRITIC CORNER that Spring is the new Summer. This Spring is no exception! The Hunger Games is going down as the highest grossing movie to ever debut on March. Can it keep its momentum? Word of mouth and competition next weekend will put "Hunger Games" to the test. Let's see if it can survive that challenge! If it does, we're looking at the first $300M+ film of the year and one of the biggest of 2012!
