“And the Nominees are . . . “
Greetings, readers!
Announcing The 5th Annual The Critic Corner Awards!
“What! What?”
For my newer
readers, you will not be familiar with The
Critic Corner. The past
couple of months I have been referencing it through my various film reviews.
Next month will mark 6 years since I “retired” The Critic Corner. Well, I retired the blog as my last
official post there was March 3, 2010, but my media coverage – and consumption
– never changed.
The last The Critic Corner Awards show was February 27, 2010. I loved every moment
of it! I revisited it recently when I was organizing the archives for future
posts. I had great fun doing that last show, but alas it was only through audio
podcast. Still, it made for entertaining radio theatre!
This winter I got
to cover several films for The
Critic Corner here on The
Newsreel site. As this year got rolling, I keep thinking about revisiting
my awards show for one last performance. After all, thanks to my Tech Corner
production, I now have the tools to produce a better version of the show. So
after several nights of tossing and turning with excitement, I am officially
announcing the reboot/one-off 5th The Critic Corner Awards Show!
This time around it
will be completely different than the previous format. The most notable difference
is that it will be a video not simply audio! Other changes include the incorporation
of television programming (think Oscars meets Emmys). And, I will not be
announcing the nominees ahead of time. This way I keep the drama and suspense
under wraps! However, I won’t simply not announce anything. What I can
tell you are what categories will be showcased, and what films and shows the
nominees will be pooled from.
Before I get to
that, some of you are probably wondering, “What’s the prize for the
winners?” Well, they get a very well
deserved pat on the back not to mention recognition on my program FOR
FREE! It just can’t get any better than
that! Except for, of course, the real
golden statutes and award bags of goodies handed out at the Academy Awards and
Emmy’s . . .
Well, enough of the
shenanigans. What are the criteria to even be considered a nominee?
-
The
film’s release and TV show premiere have to fall between January 1st
and December 31st of that corresponding award year – in this case,
2015. (American Sniper is technically a 2014 film therefore does not
qualify.)
-
The
film or TV show, cast and crew MUST deserve the nomination not just be a space
filler
-
The TV
Show must debut in the calendar year though not necessarily conclude in the
year
